Jr Skyforce League Registration is OPEN

WHY THE JR. SKYFORCE BASKETBALL LEAGUES?

  • We utilize the program software, “Sports Engine”, which allows you to have quick access to coach notifications, team rosters, practice/game schedules and more.
  • Some teams will get to experience playing on Heritage Court, home of the NBA G-League Champion Sioux Falls Skyforce.
  • Some teams will be involved in pre-game fan experience opportunities at a Skyforce game.
  • When your team plays on Heritage Court, each player gets into that evenings Skyforce game for free (parents receive 50% off that evening’s game tickets).
  • Families of players have an opportunity to attend 1 free regular season Skyforce Family Night game. Free tickets for the whole family!

little hoopsters

Little Hoopsters (Ages 4-5)

More Info On Little Hoopsters

This introductory co-ed youth basketball program is designed to emphasize and develop basketball skill work including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Your Little Hoopster will learn basketball while having tons of fun! This league is designed for development and is NOT a team competition league.

  • Fall session program runs Saturdays November 4th-December 16th
  • Winter session program runs Saturdays January 6th-February 10th
  • All sessions are held at Linwood Wesleyan 1101 E 57th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57108.
  • There are 4 time slots 8am, 9am,10am, and 11am.
  • Each week there will be a 45 minute skill development practice, led by YMCA staff.
  • Each little Hoopster will be given a ‘little hoopster t-shirt’ and basketballs will be provided by the YMCA.

Micro (K-1st Grade)

Micro Basketball is designed for kids who are new to basketball. This program teaches basic skill development. Players will be introduced to the game through drills and a modified game each week. This program produces a safe place for kids to enhance motor skills, strengthen listening skills and build confidence.

Other specifics are:

  • Fall season will run November 4th, 2023-December 16th, 2023. The winter season will run January 6th, 2024- February 10th, 2024. Teams are guaranteed 6 games per session. There is a chance your team may have a bye week based on the number of teams in the league. 
  • Locations vary – we utilize Brandon public schools, Family Wellness, and our YMCA.
  • Times will vary as well but will be between 8am—4pm each Saturday.
  • Each week there will be a 20-30 minute skill development practice followed by a 30 minute modified game in the hour time slot on Saturday.
  • Players will use a size 27.5 basketball.
  • Teams will find sponsors to pay for their jerseys for the season.

Rookies Basketball is the next step up from Micro Basketball and is meant for kids to focus on the fundamentals. This program teaches basic skill development. Players will be introduced to the game through drills and a game each week. This program produces a safe place for kids to enhance motor skills, strengthen listening skills and build confidence.

Competitive (3rd-8th Grades) & Recreational (2nd-8th Grades)

  • Registration closes September 15th, 2023.
  • Registration after Sep. 15th is not guaranteed a placement on a team. 
  • All grades enjoy ten games and a thrilling end-of-season tournament. There are two divisions, Competitive and Recreational. Those that register for the recreational league that are not a part of a team already will be placed onto a team from the same school/location when possible. The YMCA reserves the right to mix players from different schools if needed to form teams.”
  • Recreational basketball is a great design for those that have never played basketball or that have not played many years of basketball. Our recreational basketball league has great competition with teams from around the Sioux Falls community. Our Competitive league is for those that have been participating in basketball for 3-4 years and want the next step to higher competition. 

Other specifics are:

  • Games begin the week of November 2nd, 2023 and run through the week of March 11th, 2024. Practices will begin the week of October 10th, 2023. 
  • All grades play in ten league games. Five games in the Fall season and five games in the Winter season.  
  • Teams are provided with one practice location a week – locations vary. 
  • Single elimination end-of-season tournament – first and second place prizes.
  • All levels will have two paid referees and 1 paid gym supervisor.
  • Teams will supply a score keeper or timer for each game.
  • Games are played once or twice a week. Games will be played on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday night. Locations vary – we utilize Sioux Falls public schools, Brandon public schools, Family Wellness, our YMCA and various church gyms throughout the area.
  • Teams are required to have at least seven players.
  • 7th-8th grade boys league will run October-December with their end-of-season tournament at the beginning of January. 
  • 7th-8th grade girls league will run the end of January-February with their end-of-season tournament in March. 
  • Teams will find sponsors to pay for their jerseys for the season.

At this time we do not offer at Winter Only option for our recreational or competitive league.
