Camp Counselor Opportunities

Like many Y programs, camping is about learning skills, developing character, and making friends. But few environments are as special as YMCA Camp Leif Ericson, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities.

Camping teaches self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership—all amidst the fun of camp fires, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships. Counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.

TYPES OF POSITIONS

Junior Counselor (ages 16-17)

Junior Counselors support camper groups throughout the day, helping lead activities like arts & crafts, nature walks, farm animal care, and outdoor games. This is a great stepping-stone leadership role for teens looking to grow their experience working with kids in a fun, energetic camp environment.

Counselor (ages 18+)

Counselors are the heart of camp! They lead and supervise a group of up to 12 campers, guiding them through each day’s activities, encouraging growth, and creating unforgettable experiences. Counselors are role models, team-builders, and problem-solvers all in one.

Program Specialist (ages 18+)

Program Specialists lead specific activity areas and bring them to life for campers. They develop age-appropriate lesson plans before camp begins and deliver their program each day with creativity and enthusiasm. Specialists focus on one of the following areas:

Gardening
Wall Lake
Ropes Course
Behavior Support
Ranch Camp
Office Administration

Program Leader (ages 18+)

Program Leaders are key members of our leadership team at Camp Leif Ericson. This role supports and supervises counselors, manages daily operations within an assigned age group, and ensures that both campers and staff have a safe, fun, and positive experience.

*All Leif Ericson Day Camp staff positions are seasonal, end of May through mid-August
