Get Involved
Neighborhood Soccer is powered by the community. Whether you’re a parent, volunteer, sponsor, church partner, or local business, there is a place for you to make a difference in the lives of Sioux Falls children and families.
Because Neighborhood Soccer is offered completely free of charge to participating families, community support is essential to making the program possible. Every donation, volunteer hour, meal served, and partnership helps ensure that children can access soccer, equipment, mentorship, and a shared meal at no cost.
By investing your time, talents, and resources, you help create opportunities for kids to build confidence, develop healthy habits, form meaningful relationships, and experience the joy of belonging.
There are many ways to get involved:
Register a Child to Play
Give Your Child the Opportunity to Play, Grow, and Belong
Neighborhood Soccer provides a fun, welcoming environment where children can learn the game, build confidence, develop friendships, and stay active. Each gathering includes soccer, a shared meal, and opportunities for families to connect with one another and with caring adult volunteers.
No matter a child’s skill level or experience, every participant is encouraged, supported, and celebrated. By registering your child, you’re joining a community that believes every kid deserves the chance to play, connect, and thrive.
Volunteer as a Coach or Site Volunteer
Make a Difference One Child at a Time
Volunteers are the heart of Neighborhood Soccer. Whether you’re coaching on the field, helping families register, serving lunch, distributing equipment, welcoming participants, or supporting site operations, your time and encouragement can have a lasting impact on a child’s life.
No soccer experience is required for many volunteer roles. What matters most is a willingness to build relationships, create positive experiences, and help children and families feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
By volunteering, you’ll help create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment where kids can grow in confidence, build friendships, and experience a strong sense of belonging.
Sponsor a Neighborhood Site or Season
Invest in Kids, Families, and Stronger Neighborhoods
Corporate and community sponsors make Neighborhood Soccer possible. Sponsorships help provide soccer equipment, shared meals, volunteer support, and program resources that create welcoming spaces where children and families can connect and thrive.
A sponsorship of $7,000 supports one neighborhood site for a single season (Spring or Fall). A sponsorship of $14,000 supports a site for an entire year, ensuring children and families can participate in both seasons at no cost.
By sponsoring a neighborhood site, your organization becomes a visible partner in youth development and community engagement while helping bridge opportunity gaps and strengthen neighborhoods across Sioux Falls.

Make a Charitable Contribution
Help Every Child Feel Welcome, Connected, and Supported
Your financial support helps provide soccer equipment, nutritious meals, volunteer training, and program resources that make Neighborhood Soccer possible.
One of the most meaningful parts of Neighborhood Soccer is the shared meal enjoyed by participants, families, and volunteers each week. Contributions help ensure every child has access to both a positive recreational experience and a welcoming community gathering.
Every gift helps children build confidence, form meaningful relationships, stay active, and experience a strong sense of belonging.
Together, we can ensure every child has a place to play, grow, and belong.
A New Home for Neighborhood Soccer
For years, Neighborhood Soccer has brought children, families, schools, churches, businesses, and volunteers together through the power of sports and relationships. What began as an initiative of Empower Sioux Falls has grown into a beloved community program that serves hundreds of children across Sioux Falls each year.
As the program continued to grow, Empower Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Family YMCA recognized an opportunity to ensure Neighborhood Soccer’s long-term sustainability and impact. Beginning in 2026, Neighborhood Soccer officially became a program of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA.
This transition allows Empower Sioux Falls to focus on its evolving mission while entrusting Neighborhood Soccer to an organization whose mission closely aligns with the program’s purpose and values.
As a YMCA program, Neighborhood Soccer gains the organizational support, volunteer network, fundraising capacity, and long-term sustainability needed to continue growing and serving children across Sioux Falls. Empower Sioux Falls planted the seeds, and the YMCA is honored to help the program continue to grow.
Why Neighborhood Soccer Matters
Neighborhood Soccer serves children and families throughout Sioux Falls by partnering with local schools, churches, businesses, and community organizations to provide a completely free youth soccer experience.
More than just a sports program, Neighborhood Soccer creates opportunities for children to build confidence, develop character, form meaningful relationships, and experience a sense of belonging. Through soccer, shared meals, mentorship, and weekly lessons focused on values such as respect, responsibility, integrity, fairness, sportsmanship, determination, and encouragement, participants gain skills that extend far beyond the field.
Together, we are removing barriers to participation, strengthening neighborhood connections, and creating a welcoming community where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
More than a Soccer Program
Neighborhood Soccer is about much more than learning the game. Each week, participants explore a character value that helps them grow as teammates, leaders, and community members. Through short lessons, team discussions, soccer activities, and shared meals, children are encouraged to practice these values both on and off the field.
Our core values are:
Respect • Responsibility • Integrity • Fairness • Sportsmanship • Determination • Encouragement
Each session begins with a brief lesson focused on one of these values, followed by opportunities to put that lesson into practice during soccer activities and community meal time. By intentionally teaching character alongside athletic skills, Neighborhood Soccer helps young people build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop tools for success that extend far beyond the soccer field.
Neighborhood Sites
Neighborhood Soccer serves children and families across Sioux Falls through partnerships with local elementary schools, churches, and community organizations. Each site is supported by dedicated volunteers and community partners who help create a welcoming, encouraging environment where children can learn, grow, and build lasting relationships.
Current Neighborhood Soccer sites include:
- Cleveland Elementary (Linwood Wesleyan & Hillcrest Baptist) — Frank Olson Park
- Garfield Elementary (The Point is to Serve & 18th Street Church) — Spellerberg Park
- Riverside & Laura B. Anderson Elementary (Oak Hills Baptist) — Mansor-Pioneer Park
- Lowell Elementary (First Baptist Church) — Campus Park
- Hayward Elementary (Cross Pointe & Life Church) — Hayward Park
- Terry Redlin Elementary (Celebrate Church & Gloria Dei) — Meldrum Park
- Anne Sullivan Elementary (Living Hope) — Kenny Anderson Park
