Our generous donors make our work possible.

The Sioux Falls Family YMCA is dedicated to building Strong Kids, Strong Families, and Strong Communities with a primary focus on youth activities. Thanks to your generous donations, weโ€™ve been able to complete these wonderful projects for our community.

Gaga Pit Expansion

Gaga ball has long been a favorite pastime at Camp Leif Ericson, bringing campers together for fast-paced fun and friendly competition. This year, we added three brand new gaga pits across camp to meet growing demand and ensure more campers can jump into the action. Strategically placed near high-traffic areas, these new pits not only reduce wait times but also create new gathering spots for campers to build friendships and stay active. Whether itโ€™s their first game or their fiftieth, every camper now has more opportunities to get in the pit and play!

A heartfelt thank you to our generous community partnersโ€”Soukup Construction, Builders FirstSource, and Associated General Contractors of Americaโ€”for sponsoring the construction and materials that made this project possible.

Tepee Village

Tepee Village, a beloved Camp Leif Ericson tradition, was established in 1990 to enhance overnight programming. With support from local โ€œrendezvousersโ€ and a generous donor, the first village was built along the riverbank, welcoming 250 campers that summer. For nearly 30 years, it was a cherished part of camp until weather challenges led to its removal in 2018.

This summer, we proudly brought eight new tepees to camp, reviving the tradition in a meaningful way. We will be partnering with local Indigenous artists to honor their history while creating an engaging and educational experience for future campers.

The Tieszen Towers

A brand-new playground arrived at Camp Leif Ericson in the spring of 2025, thanks to the generous support of Sammons Financial and the Bob & Rita Elmen Foundation. This new addition replaced the beloved Outpost Playground, which was retired after decades of fun and adventure. The new playground provides campers with a safe, engaging space to explore, play, and create lasting memories. We are incredibly grateful for this support in making camp an even more special place for future generations!

Racquetball Sustainability

The Annual Racquetball Sustainability campaign continues to highlight our commitment to keeping our courts in top condition while expanding access to the sport for young players. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, this campaign helps ensure our racquetball facilities remain beautiful and well-maintained, providing a top-tier experience for players of all levels.

More than just court upkeep, these funds also open doors for youth to participate in racquetball, giving them the opportunity to learn, compete, and develop a lifelong love for the game.

Strong Kids

For many families in our community, the cost of camp, child care, or youth sports means having to tell their child, โ€œNot this year.โ€

The Strong Kids Campaign helps change that answer to โ€œyes.โ€

Your gift, in any amount, helps make sure a familyโ€™s financial circumstances never determine whether their child gets to participate.

Together, we can open the door for more local kids to join a team, attend camp, build confidence, and find a community that believes in them.
